Matthew's birthday cake...every cake tells a story!

We had lots of fun with Leah, Daniel and Matthew who had his 16th birthday while with us. We went to see two castle ruins, played lots of fun games, learnt new country dances amongst other things.

We made Matthew a birthday cake as a surprise but it didn't go too well. First I couldn't get the
oven temperature right so it wouldn't cook in the middle but over cooked the top. :( So I tried to rescue it by decorating it nicely once it was cooked. I did a swirly design on top with a chocolate butter cream icing and was just going to lightly sprinkle on some chocolate shavings but the rest of the sprinkles ended up falling out of the pot and covered the whole cake that way! Oh well, I think it worked all right in the end.
